Help Detect Fraud
Anyone receiving an Economic Impact Payment in relation to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic may be able to help detect fraud. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) is urging eligible recipients, financial institutions and law enforcement agencies to report suspected fraud connected with the issuance of these payments. “Our Office of Investigations anticipates criminals will engage in various scams and schemes in attempts to intercept Economic Impact Payments, and/or steal sensitive taxpayer information during these challenging times,” TIGTA said.
